En un poble molt unit de Kosovo, les famílies lluiten per a arribar a final de mes, ansioses per rebre notícies dels marits, pares i fills que van anar a la guerra. Quan les abelles de Fahrije deixen de produir mel, decideix treure's el permís de conduir i s'aventura a la ciutat per a vendre ajvar casolà en una botiga de comestibles local. La seva ingenuïtat i ambició posen a prova als habitants d'un poble conservador per naturalesa en el qual continuen vigents les nocions patriarcals i tradicionals de la societat. Per a poder sobreviure ha de superar els insults i els atacs físics que tracten d'impedir per tots els mitjans que la dona pugui valer-se per si mateixa.
In the early '90s, the Yugoslavian Government cancelled the autonomy of Kosovo, dissolved its Parliament and closed down the National Television. All institutional life was reorganized by the new authorities, while the majority of the citizens responded with peaceful demonstrations. During this terrible time, Fadili, who works as an archivist, has to choose between two options, knowing that both of them are wrong. He therefore involuntarily and unwillingly "swallows" the shame, endures the pressure bearing down from all sides and puts up with the bad reputation for only one reason: to provide for his family.
A police officer steals some money from an international judge of a special court in Kosovo. The money was a bribe for the judge. Now the officer faces a dilemma – whether to keep the money and deny everything or figure out a way to return the money for his own family’s safety.
