Jackie's mother, Pam Burkhart (Brooke Shields) unexpectedly returns from Mexico. Everyone tries to convince Jackie to forgive her mother and welcome her back into her life. However, when Pam starts dating Bob, Donna and Jackie realize that Pam is still a gold-digger. Donna and Jackie agree to do whatever it takes to break their parents up. Kelso is scared to leave for police academy, but the guys force him to go.

When none of the guys will help Donna and Jackie in convincing their parents not to date, they come up with their own plan to try to lure Pam away and prove she doesn't really love Bob. Meanwhile Red's heart monitor keeps going off around Pam prompting Kitty to think Red is "extremely happy" around her.

When the gang sees Mitch at a putt putt course, they laugh it up at his pathetic job until they accidentally hit him in the head with a golf ball. Feeling sorry for him, Eric invites him to join the gang in the basement. But it snowballs from there when Mitch obsesses over Donna. Meanwhile, Pam doesn't see what the big deal is about rejecting Bob's offer to move in together, since she is dating another man.

When Hyde and Red accidentally walk in on Pam and see her topless, they are shocked by her reaction. They try to keep it a secret, but Bob, of all people, spills the beans. Meanwhile, Donna finds out about a girl Eric dated while she was with Casey.

The day of the rehearsal dinner, Eric comes to the realization that he could be holding Donna back if he marries her. He attempts to tell her this when the Formans come visit the mobile home Donna picked out. Although he denies having second thoughts, he drops enough hints to make Donna begin to worry about the wedding herself. Meanwhile, Michael makes a very poor first impression on Brooke's mother; Hyde and Fez try to decide who Eric's best man will be.

Everyone does their best to cheer Donna up after Eric disappeared before the wedding. Midge even shows up to console her daughter, but her arrival causes an awkward scene with Bob and Pam. Also, Hyde lands in the hospital after he takes Donna to the water tower for a talk. While Kitty looks after Hyde, she goes through his medical records and stumbles upon a life-altering piece of news.

A week after Eric and Donna's engagement was called off, they are both on good terms, but have to make big decisions regarding their futures. Donna gets a new look, and Eric decides to take a year off, but to do that he needs to sell Donna's engagement ring to get some money. There's only one problem with his plan: Donna threw it off the water tower. Also, Bob is torn between Pam and Midge, and Red puts pressure on him (only because Kitty pressured Red) to choose between them. However, one of them takes the decision out of Bob's hands.
