I was 10 years old. Scared me so bad I had nightmares. Didn't help that my dad went outside and tapped on my window right next to my bed waking me up. Quite the prankster he was

I didn't see it then, but I have seen it many times on both VHS and DVD. I liked it.

One of the best, as you say, even though it was not particularly faithful to the book. The best script based on a King novel, was, IMHO, _ The Stand_.

I agree Gary my man. Stephen King said that the dark tower was his grande epic, but the stand beats it by a mile

Freaky movie. Saw this movie on VHS as a kid with my friends late at night with all the lights out. My friend's grandmother pokes her head into the living room to check on us and my friend screamed and jumped out of his seat. Yeah, my friend couldn't live it down, and we reminded him about it every chance we got. HahA! Good times.

Just got it on Blu Ray. One of the best TV movies of all time, IMO. Brought back the memories, watching it.
