I started this project back in February of last year(!) and was pulled off of it for over half of 2019, so after an entirely too long dev cycle, I am pretty stoked to let you guys know about this.
If I was to zero in on what makes v5 so much better than v4, it's that it's all about density and consistency. I spent a lot of time making things consistent across all media types and pages. Everything finally feels like it's a lot more at home and where it belongs. This is also a design that can scale with some of the new data we plan to start incorporating over the next few years.
While it is mostly feature complete, I am aware of a few lingering issues. They are as follows:
If you see something that is clearly wrong, by all means feel free to mention it below. I need more eyes on this, so just use it as you see fit and I'll be spending the next few weeks wrapping everything up.
My goal is to have this launched in production sometime in the next few weeks.
Thanks as always!
Update on March 27: v5 is now live on production!! This has been the longest and hardest thing I have ever pulled off in the past 11 years building TMDb. Of course there's still work to be done, and we're not stopping here but I'm taking a breather for the weekend. Hope everyone is staying safe out there, feel free to reply to this thread with issues if they crop up. Thanks as always.

Hey there, I'm loving the new design! Just a little suggestion about the backdrops... I think it would be nice if the default backdrop was the one with text, like in the poster system. So the Recent Activity page would look like this, and we would have the opition to change the discovery page to show the movie/TV show poster or backdrop. This is an image format that is getting very popular due to the streaming services and, with more prominence here, we can get more data for the missing ones. However, I think that the default backdrop on the movie/TV page should always be the textless one, so we don't have something like this.
And finally, do you have any plans to support movie/TV logos in .png or .svg?

Just had cause to go back to the original site: you can't change the "Blocked" status of users on v5.
Thanks for the keyboard shortcut, which I will happily use! I see what you mean, but it does feel like an extra step.

I don't have a firm grasp how this will be implemented yet, but I think this will be handled with my planned image tagging feature. Because I think this goes a little bit beyond just languages. Another interesting aspect of this is that depending how I build it, it could be an account preference. But in any case, right now we're just left with the "highest rated" backdrop like we've always had.
So yes, actually. I think this is super neat and I was actually trying to sneak it in for v5. Not sure it will but I'm sure it will be added within the next little bit.
Good catch, I will take a look.
No problem, ya, the main difference being that you have a smaller hit area for the click. At the same time, I've really grown to like how the bar disappears now, to expose the full screen and view of the content so it's a trade off.

Looks good. I mostly use the watchlist here and it's nice to not have the navigation section on top take up so much space on the page. I would love to have a grid view option in watchlist too.

Thanks. I'll give that some thought, I've been condensing most of the lists in order to show more information per screen, and I think account lists will get that treatment. Not sure about a grid view but we'll see.
One thing I was thinking about adding on top of the "show me... everything/items I've seen/items I haven't seen" filters on movie and TV pages was your watchlist as well. So worst case, you can get a grid view there.

This isn't really something wrong with the new site, but more something I have wanted for a while. Would you ever consider having a user setting preference (option) to blur out actor faces? Just like how you can filter out adult items (the backdrops I think become blurred, don't they)?
The reason I want this is because I personally do not like seeing pictures of the actors (outside of the characters they play). For me it ruins the fantasy of the movie/tv show- makes it harder to detach the actor from the character. Does that make sense? Edit: I particularly hate this when the movie or TV show is animated- seeing what the voice actors look like- the face behind the voice- r
Anyway, I understand this probably isnt an issue most people have (and is probably a weird request) and youre probably busy with a million different (more important) things. But I thought Id just add it just in case its something youd want to add.

@tmdb24407783 I've suggest another solution to this before. It would be nice if it was possible to add the character profile image on the movie/TV pages so the primary image of an actor could be associated with what work is being viewed.
The same could be done with animations, as you mentioned, like the BTVA website does.

Once I have character pages created, we will be able to start supporting character images. It's a pre-requisite of the universe/franchises feature and is planned to be completed in Q2. My team has already started working on it.

Just a heads up, collection editing has been hooked up on v5. This finally fixes most of the bugs that current production has with adding/locking movies and data on collections. More to come...

Found a small problem on v5.
On the Watchlist page, you don't seem to be able to swap from Movies to TV at both junctions. The drop down works, but the links next to "My Watchlist" don't seem to be active.
Also, how do you see the whole list?

Yup, there’s a few issues with account pages that will be getting looked at this week.
Normally, you can view the whole list by selecting a different filter than “Upcoming”, ie. “Date Added”. This will be fixed in the work I’ll be finishing this week.

Why info about production companies, country of production, release dates and something more are not shown to users? I think these are nice features to have!
