Movies with the same title (Fright Night, Evil Dead etc)

Whenever updated the metadata for a movie it constantly pulls in the newer versions details....Is there a naming structure that the file needs to have? I have tried Fright Night (1985) , Fright Night [1985] etc but the metadata editor wont find anything this way at all..(Which is another question later on).
any help would be needed!

Hi scpetit,
Search results will never be date based. They order with exact matches first, then approximate matches. Everything is ordered by a combination of the computed match score and popularity.
With regards to the naming structure, that will entirely be up to the client you are using and however they programmed it to work. Our API has a discrete year search so in order to use it, the developer needs to hook it up. If they are just throwing the whole string (example Fright Night (1985)) you won't get very good results. Best to talk to the developers of the app you use.

Hello. I am new to the site and I am having the same problem. I am using a WD TV box with a 2 terabyte external hard drive connected. Several movies that have the same name will not populate the correct meditator. For example, I have Alice in Wonderland from the 1950s, and there was also Alice in Wonderland from 2010. Being that there was no date and breakdown within the metadata, when I type Alice in Wonderland, the metadata always supplies the data for the newer version of Alice in Wonderland. You had stated the app would have to change things. I'm not quite sure what you mean by that.

This is 3rd party application problem which we are not able to help you with. Other applications (Plex, Kodi) take the year from the filename/folder name and send it to the TMDB API together with the title to get proper match (i.e the folder name/filename should be something like this: "Alice in Wonderland (1951)/Alice in Wonderland (1951).mp4"). These other applications also support manual search using IMDB ID (i.e. "tt0043274" for Alice in Wonderland (1951)), maybe that will work for you...
