Götterdämmerung is set somewhere in the GDR, ending up at New York’s stock exchange. Whilst Castorf’s staging polarized, Marek Janowski’s musical reading was unanimously praised, as was the excellent cast including in this opera Iain Paterson (Wotan), Nadine Weissmann (Erda), Albert Dohmen (Alberich) and Roberto Saccà (Loge)

The plan was to remove the Nazi Party from power, and then make peace with the Allied Forces to end the bloodshed and show the world that not all Germans were like Hitler. However, the plot failed and lead to nearly 5,000 executions.
