Discuss Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

So I've heard a lot of complaints from the Horror movie crowd, going back for about 15 years now, of the "PG-13 decline" of the Horror movie scene. Modern horrors toned down, to accommodate a younger audience, which, in doing so, broadens the potential pool of movie-goers and thus theoretically brings in more money.

Well, the makers of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey have eschewed all that; the theater I was in was sold out for the showing I attended (I was among the last to get a ticket). I have not been to a theater that crowded since 2004's The Passion of the Christ. Now, with WTP: B&H, this may have had a lot do with the fact that each theater showing the movie, over several days, had only one showtime (7:00 PM). But the publicity surrounding this film seems to have succeeded.

As for the 1980s feel of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey:

!!! SPOILERS FOLLOW !!!

One of our female characters is stripped topless and fed to a woodchipper (ah, cinematic woodchippers-- going strong since 1996;))

A particularly narcissistic Tik-Tok'er is hogtied in her bikini and decapitated by car tire.

All other female characters are killed off, via chain strangulation, sledgehammer-to-the-head, and machete through the mouth. All kills attended by copious gore. Several males are killed, one not without getting his hand chopped off first. Another male is generously horse-whipped.

Blood and guts everywhere. So, I would think the "old-school" slasher Horror fans should be pleased.

Now, there is plenty of stupidity on the part of the victims, but that is par for the course for these types of movies.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey:

Good old bloody Horror, stupid victims, but, refreshingly, not much in the way of cheap "jump scares". It was also refreshing to see a movie that wasn't three hours long. The director, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, has promised to make more movies like this, and, judging by the crowd I saw at my screening, he should have plenty of money available to do so going forward.
