A widowed Nevada rancher goes to Italy and marries the sister of his deceased wife and brings her back to the ranch, but his haunting memories of his lost love and her tendency to drift away to other men cause the two to have a tough time at keeping a marriage together.

Gino, immigré italien, est installé dans le Nevada où il élève des moutons en compagnie d'Angie, sa fille de 20 ans qu'il eut de sa femme Rossana, morte en couches, son frère Alberto, la femme de ce dernier, Teresa, et Bene, jeune homme qu'il considère comme son fils. Décidé à se remarier, Gino part en Italie. Il en revient au bras de Gioia, la soeur cadette de Rossana. Mais sa nouvelle épouse ne fait que lui rappeler l'ancienne, à qui elle ressemble tant, et il supporte mal que Gioia ne lui voue pas un amour exclusif. Elle, se sentant mal aimée, finit par se rapprocher du séduisant Bene...

Gioia, sorella della defunta moglie di un ricco ma rozzo allevatore italo-americano del Nevada, viene da questi sposata in seconde nozze e chiamata negli Stati Uniti dall'Italia. Ma la loro relazione degenera quando Gioia s'accorge che il marito Gino ama in lei solo l'immagine della sorella morta. Cede così alle lusinghe di un giovanotto del ranch molto caro all'allevatore che, venuto a conoscenza del fatto, non esita a picchiarlo a sangue. I due innamorati capiscono il loro errore e lo stesso Gino comincia a considerare la sua nuova moglie per quello che effettivamente è e non solo per ciò che gli ricorda.
