Truly terrible, and on display for far too much of the running time. It's difficult to take this film seriously when Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer and (to a lesser extent) Naomi Watts are caked in such hideously unconvincing makeup. Not that this is an impressive movie as a whole, with a potentially fascinating subject reduced to a dreary series of conversation sequences and hammy performances. One terrific sequence, somewhere in the middle, where Armie gives Leo a hammering, but little else. And please, Hollywood, refrain in future from casting Judi Dench in roles where she is required to attempt an American accent.
