The Isle
(2000)
Overview
A beautiful, angry, and sad movie, set on a lake where fishermen rent tiny floating cottages and escape from the outside world. However the idyllic setting hides a world of savagery and suffering. Hee-jin works in a fishing spot isolated from the world, taking care of small fishing huts that seem to float like islands on a reservoir. Occasionally, she also prostitutes herself to the fishermen. One day, a man comes. He is full of a sense of despair and estrangement. Hee-jin has her own streak of rustic madness. The place becomes the site of serial murders. The reservoir appears to turn into an overflowing swamp of blood.
