His big scene... dear lord what a buffoon. Herzog gets on camera for 5 minutes ranting incoherently about how there's nothing worth filming in the world, how maybe if he goes to the moon he'll find something worth filming there. I'm like, Dude YOU'RE the filmmaker, you have 1 job and that's to make images interesting to watch. If you can't come up with any ideas don't blame the world. (But by all means hop a flight to the moon lol)
The beautiful irony is that Wim Wenders, who made this documentary, found something interesting to film even if it's a pompous filmmaker blaming the world for not giving him anything worth filming. Even the irritating speech by Herzog was beautiful in context because, like the films of Yasujiro Ozu whom this documentary is about, the scene shows beauty in everyday human folly. If Herzog is an idiot, then Wenders is a genius for turning an idiot's rant into great cinema.

Dude my thoughts EXACTLY. I think Fitzcarraldo, Aguirre, Nosferatu are fantastic. Herzog is a master behind the camera, but in front of it... hmmmm
