Discuss The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Hey folks, I tried referencing the various bibles available for TMDB, but am not sure what category this falls under, so I hope you'll forgive me for any knowledge gaps.

Currently, there are three entries in TMDB for the BBC Narnia movies:

  • A) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe (1988)
  • B) The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989)
  • C) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair (1990)

However, there are four movies, not three. There is are three-disc boxed sets of these, which might explain why there are three entries, but the 2nd disc in the set contains TWO movies. The 2nd and 3rd movie were presumably aired around the same time, but I doubt they were aired back to back given that one of them is 2 hours long. I can't find any more-specfic information other than the year that they were aired. I think it'd make a lot more sense if things were organized this way:

  1. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe (1988)
  2. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (1989)
  3. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989)
  4. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair (1990)

If there's any doubt that entry B above is actually two movies, here is evidence for that:

  • The boxed set, on the reverse, says "3 DVD Set includes: 4 feature-length movies"
  • On the disc menu of the 2nd disc in the set, there are two "play" options, one that says "Play Prince Caspian", and below that, another that says "Play The Voyage of the Dawn Treader"
  • When these movies are ripped off of the disc, they are two distinct files with their own intros and their own credits.

So, given all of that, it would feel very forced to multiplex the two movies together just to match TMDB's entries. Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you

I don't think you're wrong. I have this set and yes, there are four movies (though, of course, in the UK they were aired as a television series). I don't know what the answer is but perhaps if it doesn't break a site rule we should go ahead and create a new entry for Dawn Treader? I am willing to help.

I got tired of waiting, so figured I'd share my solution. Since two of the movies share the same box art it'd've looked a little wonky on the media server anyway. Your naming convention might have to vary based on your media server, but since Jellyfin supports versioning, I used that.

Movie Folder Name: The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989)

Movie Name 1: The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989) - Prince Caspian

Movie Name 2: The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian & The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1989) - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Doing it this way, you can select which movie you want from the version drop-down on the movie page for the pair of movies. It'll just show "Prince Caspian" and "The Voyage of the Dawn Trader" in the drop-down, not the full text. It's not a perfect solution, but for me it was an acceptable compromise.
