Discuss The Northman

The movie is rather over the top at spots to the extent it seems kind of comical. My favourite part was when the love interest suddenly just decides to flash her genitalia at evil viking ruler and smears her blood all over his face. It was so surprising that it really made me laugh and I still can't really figure why they put it in the movie, but I'm not complaining. I also liked the part where he finds a certain a sword and the narrator's voice changes to a really deep and dramatic tone when he says DRAUGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR while some choir starts chanting in the backround. That also was so over the top that it made me laugh. I also have to mention the Björk out of nowhere, but when in Rom.....I mean Iceland. Now don't misunderstand me it was a pretty easy watch and fairly good movie, and my only real gripe with is it that I think casting Nicole Kidman was a really poor choice. She seems really out of place what with the botched plastic surgery and all.

Enjoyed it very much. Didnt think they would go so deep into the whole mythic and spiritual side of the Norse. Anyas character was very smart in being able to use her period to her advantage. It was a trippy film for sure. I also liked how they showed how terrible the Vikings actually were, burning children and old people alive since they didnt need weak slaves. Really brutal shit. I agree Kidman was a weird pick to play his mother. But I think she did a great job playing such a crazy bitch. I can see why the general audience didnt appreciate it. Cool fact, they filmed with one camera only, which is crazy when you think about it. They also did some pretty good one takes/one shots.

Nice to see a good movie without Hollywood propaganda in it.

Reminds me Conan the barbarian, also a great movie.

Yeah agree with this, thought Kidman was a weird choice but she did a good job. Can't really think of anyone who would've been better suited for the role. And thankfully her face wasn't that plastic looking like it usually is.

The reason for the menstrual blood scene is to remove any questions as to the paternity of the children. Otherwise one would assume that a pretty slave would have been raped from day one.
