not ageing well. I've watched loads of his highly acclaimed films and only scored two more than a 6.

In this one we have various elements that don't stand up to great scrutiny.

• incredibly oversimplified good guys versus bad guys, including pure pantomine (but not quality humour) when characters from the different camps interact
• a superficial mention of how elections are changing with the advent of TV, but no examination of how that will have changed the campaign and impacted on the election result
• fairly leaden pacing
• no resolution to the apparent sub-plot of whether the nephew would take up an interest in politics
• mawkish exploitation of a character with apparent mental health issues

I can't put my finger on it but most of Ford's work leaves me stone cold in comparison to lots of films by other directors from his era.
