Discuss Cowboys & Aliens

Decided to give this one another watch. Remembered watching it years ago, but also did not remember a single thing about it because it was so mediocre and forgettable. Well, on the second go it was still mediocre and too longwinded for such a forgettable story and there really isn't even a single scene that stands out so you would remember it when looking back to this movie. Despite the mediocrity the casting of Daniel Craig as the lead seems like a poor choice and Harrison Ford doesn't really seem to fit the role of the 'evil' colonel. Ideally they wouldn't have cast either of them in those roles, but if they had to cast them they should've at least reversed the roles because looking at Daniel Craig is thrilling and interesting like looking at a piece of wooden furniture someone threw in front of the camera.

director Faverau went out of his way to speak effusively on the delights of having a naked Olivia Wilde on set( read for yourselves )

do we have the same definition of "effusively"? Don't fall for the clickbaity headlines promising salacious gossip; her "nude" scene was a non-event. The only thing Faverau went out of his way to talk about was how Olivia's character was deliberately NOT sexualized, dressed as a man in every scene except that one which was literally the reveal (not sexually). There's an entire DVD featurette on that subject. The scene was a bit awkward for the entire crew, but Olivia agreed it was necessary and did it professionally.

Even from the article you cited:

"About the nude shot, Favreau didn't want to say much, but did tell Entertainment Weekly, 'That's a moment in the film that may seem out of context, but actually makes a lot of sense in the course of the movie.' "

On the whole I agree this was a mediocre movie with bizarre casting for the 2 male leads, but they handled Olivia's character perfectly in line with the original graphic novel. Totally de-sexualized for obvious reasons after the reveal.
