Not sure why they decided to change a formula that worked at least to some extent. Stallone and Schwarzenegger worked just fine as a duo escaping from prison. In this movie they changed it, though, and Stallone is more of a side character and you have all these other sidekicks who don't really end up having any purpose in the film at all. The film would've lost nothing if Jesse Metcalfes, 50 cent's and Bautista's character had been cut not to mention those two chicks in Stallone's team. Hell, even the stereotypical asian martial artist could've been cut and the movie wouldn't have lost much. Speaking of said martial artist, I have to wonder why the warden of the prison would just decide to fight him in a knife fight in some alley of his prison. I guess it makes about as much sense as the rest of the movie with most of these characters just suddenly appearing in different places across the prison.

I'm actually thinking why Stallone and Batista are even on the billed on the cover, they're barely in it. I agree that there are way too many sub-characters and all of them take this far too seriously. Metcalfe the most obvious at trying his hardest.
Just seems like this has been aimed at the Chinese market due to the main guys being Chinese. And what I also found odd is how they only spoke English to each other.

Well, about a year later it beomes clear why they changed the "formula" and added all those stupid and unnecessary sidekicks. They planned to make it into a whole series of films and now they've released "Escape Plan The Extractors" filmed with the same sidekicks and most likely shot in some cheap eastern european country like this one.
