Just saw it and my, I am impressed. Looks like the CG on the elephant is perfect for the fantasy setting. Burton's use of color is really fitting. Even the actors--including the awesome Batman callbacks of using Keaton and DeVito--looks spot-on for each of the main roles. I haven't been a big fan of their live-action remakes, but this looks like the right combination of material, director, and technology.
With the EpIX, the final Avengers, Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, and maybe even Captain Marvel I have a feeling 2019 might just be Disney's biggest year ever. It's a little scary how big they've gotten.

Somewhat worried the movie is going to center on the big-name human characters, some love triangle or coming-of-age story featuring the children, and Dumbo is just a vehicle for the human plot.

Well it kind of is, as there are no talking animals in this film so some of the humans are given the same lines instead. There was some questionable things as well from the original (like alcohol use) that's completely removed from this film and parts of that (like the pink elephants hallucination) used differently. Overall, I liked the movie, but I do consider it the least faithful of the live screen adaptations so far.
