Discuti Passengers

He had a VIP membership.. and also sex-bots. Perhaps there was a reason Arthur was only functional from the waist up?

No, that's the misconception that Jim just woke someone up so he could have sex with them. Noo, he did it for human connection and found it in Auorora.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/LE_aVVuNqnE

Greetings! This is not really part of this convo, but I but wanted to get the most people to see my question. :) In one of the extras on the Blu-ray, Jennifer Lawrence is speaking as if they are in the middle of filming the movie, but she has very long hair. Was she wearing a short wig while shooting this film, or was she wearing extensions for possibly something else she was doing at the same time?

Thanks!

@GForce59 wink I think your opinion is right.

You mean the extensions?

@GForce59 wink Yes, the extensions.

Her hair did look rather long!

I'm so grateful that there is a good looking leading actress in her generation... More needed.

In that brief scene where they show both her and Pratt seemingly totally naked, I wonder if that was really her or a body double.

It's true, we don't know whether or not he looked at any other "candidates". He seemed to have been smitten with Aurora from the get go. But wasn't it also her writing, her ideas, her way of expressing herself that captivated him? Maybe he didn't feel he could do better with any of the other women.

Significance of the round-trip ticket? People colonize for different reasons. Some seek to escape their old lives, their debt, or relationships, some seek adventure, some seek wealth, some seek the solitude an under-populated region can provide ... any of these reasons might cause a person to be amenable to the compromise of living aboard the ship, in effect "colonizing" the ship rather than a planet. All that's really changed is the location.

Isn't that, in effect, what they wound up doing, colonizing the ship instead of Homestead?

But Aurora clearly had a plan, a precise one that Jim shredded when he woke her. That's why her round-trip ticket made her a bad choice.

Under the circumstances, surrounded by thousands of helpless, sleeping people, pretty much anything he does is going to seem creepy. I just don't have a problem with him researching & learning as much about the person he plans to waken as possible.

Putting his needs over hers? Yes. But getting back to Gus's drowning man analogy, we can hardly fault him for reaching out rather than just quietly sinking into the depths. Maybe the person he grabs drowns with him, or maybe that person manages to pull him up, to safety. I think in Aurora's case, it was definitely the latter.

And if Jim falls into despair and maybe even kills himself rather than face the future alone, the ship ends up destroyed and ALL the people die.

Quite true. Jim could not have saved the ship without someone’s help, and Gus was going to die anyway so it couldn’t have been him alone. There needed to be someone else. This conversation must have taken place off screen between Jim and Aurora, and a part of why Aurora forgave Jim.

Could partly explain her forgiving him. But when he woke her up it wasn't because he needed THAT KIND of help. If he'd been waking someone up to help him with the ship, would he have picked her?
