Discuss Deep Cover

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104073/board/thread/266098015?d=266098015#266098015 It is in many ways circular but it does pay homage to a gifted actor as well.

One of my favorites too. Wish they'd release a blu-ray.

An associate pointed out that the movie is very "aware of what it is."

Norrin Radd, what do you mean by the film being "circular"?

Sorry guys. The "Film" in this case is in no ways circular or not in any way that I could state a cogent argument at the moment.

During those initial days of the transition from IMDB Message Boards to TMDB Message Boards I created a little treasure hunt game for posters of IMDB in an attempt to lure soon-to-be-EX-IMDBers Message Board posters to the TMDB Message Boards before the IMDB boards closed.

One such treasure or scavenger hunt revolved around Laurence Fishburne. The topic of a thread was started in IMDB on a Laurence Fishburne movie Message Board and continued over to TMDB in a different Laurence Fishburne MB with a not to subtle hint as to which movie to go to next along with a TMDB link. I readily admit I was as a bit too ambitious for my own game but was reluctant to make it TOO obvious. The second objective was to start discussions on the TMDB Message boards as there were many boards that were present on TMDB but few had already active discussions.

It was my vain attempt at promoting and supporting TMDB Message Boards for a particular set of IMDB Message Board posters with a "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego" type clue and find.

The Lawrence Fishburne movies were: Cornbread Earl and Me, Event Horizon, Deep Cover, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, Man of Steel, The Matrix, Contagion, etc where you would start in IMDB and I would provide a link to the next clue in TMDB. A clue in TMDB would then link back to a different Laurence Fishburne movie within IMDb with the intent to provide a different set of IMDB posters (that were curious and clever enough) to follow back to TMDB.

Now that the IMDB Message Boards are defunct the search game and the associated links are all broken.

Dating myself, but I own a copy of Deep Cover on Laserdisc and it remains one of my favorite movies. I too would like a Blu-Ray version.

SPOILERS BELOW........

I recently rented and watched The Criterion Collection's release/treatment of Deep Cover on Blu-ray, and it is excellent! If ever an old, quality film deserved and needed the Criterion treatment, I would say this was it. The film's picture was cleaned up so well that little details that escaped me time and time again while watching the DVD and VHS copies of it were lucid for once. For example, in the boxing joint where Felix makes a deal with the crooked cop to kill David, I could never tell who was sitting nearby in the frame, watching them. It's Felix's bodyguard who never utters a word in the film. The picture is improved considerably, as is the sound. When the film's credits rolled and Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "Deep Cover" began playing at a decent volume, I almost cried, lol. While Deep Cover's soundtrack is not so great, it remains one of my favorite, archetypal hip-hop movies - hence, this was a powerful moment.

I watched a supplemental video on the Blu-ray about the importance of the song "Deep Cover" in the context of 90's rap which was practically exhaustive but rewarding all the same. The other extra stuff included was passed on for when I buy the movie for my collection. Ha ha, that could be months away....

I highly recommend this version of the film to its fans.
