What I think elevates the movie is that we see both Sutter's charm from being in the moment, confident and able to connect superficially with people, but also the destructive effects of stunted development on the real relationships in one's life, on treating everything in a smooth superficial manner...
We see through Sutter's eyes, as we see how people look at him and interact with him and how that changes throughout the movie... First they are charmed, they want to be around him, then, when reality sinks in we see pity in their eyes, some anger, dissapointment and sympathy...
It's really done well, in a very nuanced way... Without overexplaining...
I wonder about the ending... Are we destined to be our fathers?
