where did the bad guys get all their money from?

drug dealing and such i think... bad guy stuff...

But yeah, solid movie. Works as a thriller, has intimacy without being sentimental and is entertaining.

One of the strangest modern films I've ever seen. The entire narrative and characters just didn't make much sense to me at all - their motivations and actions just seemed entirely random. Examples (spoilers):

  • A guy dumps something in a bin then sits in a car all night on the off chance someone checks the bin?
  • someone (with apparently little money) is happy to pay £10k to the most random threat rather than just contact the police?
  • the historic death related to a debt wasn't coherent to me either. Someone repaid a debt but was murdered anyway?
  • the way the contents of the black bin bag were dealt with?

I was so out of tune with everything I was watching I felt I'd been smoking something!

An unusual case where writer Dennis Lehane wrote the novel after the film. I don't know any other time something like that has been done. Not counting novelizations.
