I have the DVD of this wonderful movie, have just watched it again, and White Christmas, no matter how many times I see it, ever becomes any less enjoyable for me. Delightful cast, tons of talent, terrific songs and routines. It's definitely great classic holiday entertainment.
I've watched this a gazillion times -- it's an all-time favorite of mine. Such vivid, saturated color in a film is a bygone feature, sadly. Being from Cincinnati, it's a treat to see 2 local girls as the stars -- Vera Ellen and Rosemary Clooney. PLUS, future Oscar winner (for West Side Story) George Chakiris, one of the black-haired ensemble dancers, also grew up in Cincinnati. And speaking of dancers, my remote gets a workout during the "Mandy" scene, especially when John Brascia dances backwards up the stairs. The orchestral arrangements by Van Cleve, particularly his use of wind instruments during "The Best Things Happen While You're Dancing" are dazzling. I never fail to get choked up at the end during the final performance of the "White Christmas" song -- I'm getting the tingles just thinking about it.
Ahhh, what would Christmas be without this wonderful, wonderful movie?!?!?!
