Some scenes I felt like the writer was having fun, and a laugh, channeling the ultimate gangsta. I laugh at some of the scenes, such as the bath tub scene.

Definitely, especially (as you say) the bath tub scene where he says "Look at the pelicans!" whilst watching flamingos on tv... there are a few other light touches as well which didn't detract too much from the character and showed Tony as a multi layered personality...
In the 30s version he was shown to be even more unhinged and not due to a coke habit and not all that smart

like the song it was a good day by ice cube: "saw the lights of the Goodyear Blimp / And it read "Ice Cube's a Pimp." but instead it said "the world is yours"

Oh yes, Tony's assertion that "The world and everything in it" was his, was definitely a critique of gangster mentality. How could it be anything else.

The big shootout at the end was laughable. Bad guys just standing around on the staircase AFTER Tony capped like 10 guys, and the spook walking up behind Tony while 10 guys are firing away at Tony. LOL. Dumb.

Ha ha haha. I had gotten the impression that Tony was so coked up that the dudes' shots just weren't affecting him that much, if at all. But yeah, that climax was very over the top.

Mongo, if you hadn't been so busy trying to find faults in the film, you might've realized that Sosa basically sent a small army to deal with Tony, after Tony's "betrayal." At least, that's the way I saw all of those men running toward the mansion in the dark.

Ha ha. Interestingly, not one but 2 actors of Italian descent played Cuban Americans in the film: Pacino and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. Maybe more than that. People would've had a time with those casting decisions if the film was done that way today.

I'm aware of that. And it has nothing to do with my criticism of the dumb shootout.

The whole movie is kinda dumb, in a way. However, Tony did not cap off like 10 guys at the door of his office with his bazooka thingamajjig. It was more like 5, maybe 6, tops. There were more men in the mansion than that.

He destroys the guys at the door with the grenade launcher, then a few more with the rifle, and then he reaches the railing and all those guys are just standing on the staircase waiting to get shot. It's so dumb.
