Discuss The Return of the Living Dead

Which is the best zombie movie of 1985?

I love both but Day of the Dead wins.

Return as it was less depressing and had a fun atmosphere, sound track & great characters.

Do these things leak? No they are made by the American corps of engineers. It leaks

I can't think of anything that stands out in day.

Great topic and tough call. I've always said that Day is my 3rd favorite film of all time behind Braveheart and Dawn of the Dead, but ROTLD is excellent from beginning to end and the tna certainly boosts ROTLD. I also think if you were showing someone these classics for the first time that ROTLD is the one to show them. As mentioned by others, ROTLD has the comedy factor which is appealing to casual viewers while I feel like Day is for more hardcore fans. I love Day from the start to finish, but the long scenes of no zombies and talking are boring for some. But even with that, I think what makes Day of the Dead so great are the zombies and even the soundtrack. The opening to Day of the Dead is exciting, but the payoff is definitely the last 15 minutes, much like Dawn. My favorite Tom Savini work is in Day. Rhodes getting his stomach ripped open is a scene that has been forever embedded in my brain since I first saw it on USA Up All Night.

I have to get the slight edge to DOTD because when I think zombie films I think people being eaten alive and DOTD delivers the goods.

And I was only 2 when those movies came out but 1985 is definitely the greatest year for zombie films imo. Movies most would easily have in their top 5 zombies films of all time both coming out in the same year.

I was about 10 when both flicks came out! I literally had NIGHTMARES from Tar Man in ROTLD...didn't sleep right for at least 3 days! Scariest thing I ever saw on film up to that point! Then saw DOTD & remember it felt draggy...even boring at times...couldn't believe this was the follow up to Dawn of the Dead!

That was my 10 year old perspective of course, ffwd to NOW and I DO have a new appreciation for DOTD and have seen it a few times, its earned a well deserved appreciation! Buuuuuut **ROTLD **is still where its at...no competition!
