I won't argue with the OP's top 3! All 3 are classics & I just rewatched ROTLD on Blu Ray for my Halloween 31 Days of Horror Challenge (with original audio courtesy of SHOUT Factory!)
Although I wouldn't consider myself a REAL horror fan without honorable mention to Shaun of the Dead and previously mentioned Dead Alive aka BrainDead...the latter which might be my fav horror/comedy by a hair! Not to mention still one of the goriest EVER! That lawnmower scene..when I first saw it back in the 90s I had to look away (something no other horror movie had done to me for a loooong time)

I've watched this and Army of Darkness for the first time ever recently and AoD is far superior. The acting in this was abominable whereas AoD shows you dont need to have high school standard amateur dramatics when making a completely tongue in cheek film. There is a difference between Charlie Chaplin and some random person taken off the street trying to be funny. Conveying horror and getting laughs is actually a highly skilled undertaking.
There was no snappy dialogue here, no comedic timing. Heck, everything looked like it was done in the first take regardless of the quality with the most hysterical overreacting I've ever seen in my life. Not something to celebrate or a hallmark of quality. A pity as some of the effects and the setting and plot were pretty solid foundations for a horcom.

Wes Craven’s original A Nightmare on Elm Street has its share of very funny lines (mostly black humor) and is rather humorous. But I’m unsure if it can be called a horror comedy... maybe it's just really close to that.
