Discuss Jeu d'enfant

I think this is a pretty underrated movie overall with few aspects that haven't aged as well as others (most notably the whole Voodoo subplot) but the buildup of suspense in the first half was really well done. Tom Holland is an admirer of Hitchcock and doles out the suspense very effectively in the beginning.

The second half when Chucky comes alive is not as good, but it is still quite decent and the effects are terrific in certain parts. The climax is also very memorable.

I don't think it's underrated at all. Most people consider it the best or at least scariest part of the franchise.

The only thing that bothers me about the ending now watching it as adult is Chucky climbing through the wall vents. At that point he has no head and is missing 2 limbs. Plus it's very convenient that Jack (the partner) would be standing directly beside the vent.

Theres a bit of a funny part here if you notice the basket gets knocked off during the struggle. In one of the next shots the basket is back in place. Just one of those Easter egg things with the background.

Oh yeah. I figured that the sequels wouldn't hold up next to it (I hadn't seen any until recently), and thus far, I feel that I'm right. This movie is really pretty good as well as entertaining. It's SO funny at the moment when the mom threatens to throw the doll into the fireplace. LOLLLLLL

When I was a kid I actually considered this to be a serious horror movie, but when I rewatched it as an adult I realized it's actually hilarious. My local indie theatre screened it a couple years ago and there were tons of laughs from the audience. And the director Skyped in for a Q&A!

Yes, lots of black humor is in the film. That's part of the pleasure of watching it...laughing at those bits.

I agree that the movie has moments of humor, but I still maintain that it's mostly tense until the second half. The sequels were entertaining but were made from a different mold. It wasn't until Curse of Chucky where the series tried to be somewhat serious again.

Ya there's humorous moments in all of them but I don't find the actual movies funny either. Bride was a good mix but that was on purpose.

An unintentional funny moment in the ending here (for me anyway) is how the partner calls 911 and quickly describes the situation and just hangs up. He says they'll be there in 10 minutes but it's faster by the credits.

In real life you have to talk calmly and stay on the line. I know he's an officer it's just funny how fast the phone call is.

The scene that cracks me up is when Chucky fights Norton in the car.
