Un irrequieto ventenne nell'Inghilterra degli anni Sessanta.Londra, 1965. Jimmy Cooper, fattorino in un'agenzia pubblicitaria, segue i concerti dei suoi beniamini, partecipa alle furibonde risse tra Rockers e Mods, viene iniziato all'esperienza della droga e cerca nella musica il riscatto a una vita senza prospettive. Un musical rock che nei suoi momenti migliori (soprattutto la prima metà) vive della rabbia del cinema britannico degli anni Sessanta e del suo realismo senza concessioni. Il titolo è preso a prestito da un album degli Who datato 1973 e che fa da colonna sonora al film prodotto dal gruppo inglese. Promettente esordio sul grande schermo per Sting.

Elliot Theichberg lavora come arredatore al Greenwich Village ed è impegnato sul fronte del riconoscimento dei diritti degli omosessuali. Ha però un grosso problema perchè i suoi genitori Jake e Sonia (due ebrei fuggiti dall'Europa dell'Est) stanno per perdere, a causa dei debiti, il decrepito motel che gestiscono a Catskill. Le soluzioni non sembrano a portata di mano fino a quando giunge la notizia che gli organizzatori di un'importante manifestazione musicale si sono visti ritirare l'autorizzazione dalla municipalità di Wallkill. Elliot telefona, offre il motel come base e presenta il vicino proprietario di un terreno di 600 acri. I 'mitici' 3 giorni di Pace e Musica stanno per realizzarsi.

Woodstock è un documentario americano che racconta l'omonimo Festival tenutosi a Bethel nell'agosto del 1969. Il film fu diretto da Michael Wadleigh e fu montato da (tra gli altri) Martin Scorsese e Thelma Schoonmaker. Ricevette l'Oscar come miglior documentario e fu nominato per il miglior sonoro. Nel 1996, Woodstock fu scelto per essere conservato nella National Film Registry della Biblioteca del Congresso poiché esso è "culturalmente, storicamente o esteticamente significativo". Il 9 giugno 2009 è uscita una versione più lunga, sia in Blu-Ray che in DVD, con alcune scene non presenti nella versione precedente, incluse le versioni integrali delle esibizioni dei Creedence Clearwater Revival e altri.

Il film traspira un'aria vecchiotta, da film minore degli anni '70, con un'idea improvvisa di libertà, di occasioni e aspirazioni perse per strada, che irrompe a sollecitare emozioni, sradicare personaggi, alterare rapporti.

Meanwhile, the Taylors are an African-American family living in the deep South. When Willie Taylor, a minister and civil rights organizer, is shot to death, his son Emmet moves to the city and eventually joins the Black Panthers, serving as a bodyguard for Fred Hampton.

In 1969, the band Sweetwater led by lead vocalist Nansi Nevins opened Woodstock and subsequently got considerable media attention, appearing on a number of TV shows. But just as they appeared to be getting a really break big, they just disappeared. Thirty years later, a cable TV reporter for MIX TV, a musical station, is removed from her show because of being stoned on air. Her station gives her a choice of being dismissed or investigating what happened to Sweetwater. A blending of modern day fiction and past fact is then blended in this biographical story.

She believes her family's explanation that her looks were inherited from her dark-skinned Sicilian grandfather. But when her parents abruptly split, her gut starts to tell her something different. At age of 18, she finally confronts her mother and learns the truth: her biological father was not the man who raised her, but a black man named Rodney with whom her mother had had an affair.

Woodstock Diary was originally broadcasted on U.S. TV in August 1994 - in honor of the 25th anniversary of the event. Later it was released on DVD with remastered 5.1 sound. It includes performances not shown in the Woodstock movie but not exclusively. Between the songs there are recent interviews with the producers / organizers of Woodstock Joel Rosenman, John Roberts, Michael Lang, the stage announcer Wavy Gravy and Lisa Law (a member of the Hog Farm who helped out at the festival).
