Die Festung der weißrussischen Stadt Brest ist eines der ersten Ziele der Deutschen Wehrmacht zu Beginn des Russlandfeldzuges. Die in der Festung stationierten 300 Offiziersfamilien und 9000 Soldaten werden von dem Angriff im Schlaf überrascht und erleiden heftige Verluste. Es herrscht Panik, doch den Offizieren Gawrilow, Kischewatow und Fomin gelingt es, die Verteidigung an drei Frontabschnitten zu organisieren und die Deutschen zurückzudrängen. Die Wehrmacht reagiert auf die unerwartet starke Gegenwehr mit dem Einsatz von Stukas und Panzern. In der Festung werden Munition, Essen und Wasser knapp, die ärztliche Versorgung ist katastrophal. Die drei Offiziere entscheiden sich zum Ausbruch aus dem deutschen Kessel. Ein Kampf bis zum letzten Mann beginnt.

The Stooges join the war effort by enlisting at Merchant Marines. While aboard, they have a brief run-in with (a secret German Nazi officer) Lt. Dungen (Vernon Dent), and then mistake a torpedo for a beached whale. Moe says they have to kill it, and it promptly explodes.
