Convencido de que los comunistas están contaminando los Estados Unidos, un general ordena, en un acceso de locura, un ataque aéreo nuclear sorpresa contra la Unión Soviética. Su ayudante, el capitán Mandrake, trata de encontrar la fórmula para impedir el bombardeo.
