Dokumentation um das groß angelegte Projekt “The Man who Killed Don Quixote”, das Terry Gilliam mit Johnny Depp in der Hauptrolle drehen wollte. “The Man who Killed Don Quixote” sollte sich um einen namens Toby Grosini, ein junger Mann aus der Werbebranche, drehen, der sich plötzlich einige hundert Jahre in die Vergangenheit versetzt wiederfindet, wo er auf Don Quixote trifft. Toby sollte schon bald unter dem Namen Sancho Panza bekannt sein. Im Sommer 2000 bereitet sich Regiegenie Terry Gilliam in Madrid auf die Dreharbeiten seines neuen Films “The Man Who Killed Don Quichotte” vor, seiner ganz persönlichen Interpretation von Cervantes’ Klassiker mit Jean Rochefort, Johnny Depp und Vanessa Paradis in den Hauptrollen. Die chaotischen Produktionsbedingungen können Gilliams Begeisterung nicht schmälern. Er hat zehn Jahre für dieses Projekt gekämpft und steht nun kurz vor der Verwirklichung seines Traums.
