Russell "Slim" Baze, appena uscito di prigione dopo aver scontato una lunga condanna per omicidio, intende sposare la sua ragazza e mantener fede alla promessa a lei fatta. Tutto cambia però quando scopre che suo fratello minore, coinvolto da tempo in un giro di scommesse clandestine, è stato ucciso. Da quel momento il sentimento di rabbia in Slim pervade, e per lui inizia la strada della vendetta.
