Danny Ocean lässt nichts anbrennen. Vor nicht einmal 24 Stunden ist der charismatische Gauner auf Bewährung aus dem Gefängnis in New Jersey entlassen worden, und schon plant er seinen nächsten Coup. Flug 409 (Red-Eye Special), eine Boeing 747 der Columbia Airlines, befindet sich auf dem Weg von Washington nach Los Angeles. Geführt wird die Maschine von Kapitän Stacy. Gleichzeitig macht sich der Geschäftsmann Scott Freeman aus New Mexico mit seiner Privatmaschine auf den Weg zu einem geschäftlichen Treffen in Idaho. Durch eine Schlechtwetterfront an der Westküste kann die Boeing Los Angeles nicht anfliegen. Flug 409 wird nach Salt Lake City umgeleitet. Dorthin wird auch Freemans Maschine beordert. Beide Maschinen befinden sich im Landeanflug auf Salt Lake City, wobei die 747 vor der Privatmaschine landen soll. Freeman fürchtet durch die Verspätung um den Verlust seines Geschäftes und erleidet einen schweren Herzanfall. Seine Maschine steigt unkontrolliert und gerät in die Flugbahn der Passagiermaschine. Freemans Maschine stößt mit der 747 zusammen und reißt dabei ein großes Loch in das Cockpit.
In dem Thriller wird Darby Thorne, eine junge Frau, die auf dem Weg zu ihrer Familie ist, von einem Schneesturm aufgehalten und muss mit einer Gruppe von Fremden auf einem Highway-Rastplatz Schutz suchen. Als sie in einem Transporter ein entführtes Mädchen entdeckt, beginnt für sie ein Kampf um Leben und Tod, bei dem sie den Entführer finden muss.
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, 1985: Stadt der Mormonen, des amerikanischen Konservatismus - und der Punks?! Stevo und Heroin Bob (der nicht einmal Aspirin zu sich zu nehmen wünscht und eine ausgeprägte Phobie gegen Spritzen entwickelt hat) fühlen sich immer wieder als die einzigen richtigen Punks in der Stadt der großen Kultur des white trash. Es gibt zwar noch jede Menge andere junge ZeitgenossInnen mit bunten Haaren und aufsässigen Einstellungen, aber dies sind alles mehr oder weniger Pseudos. Und so nimmt uns Stevo mit auf eine willkürliche Tour durch die Partys, Konzerte und Jahre, in denen es nicht leicht war, sich ein Punk zu nennen.
