Discuss Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding it odd to determine what the time setting of the show takes place in? In one episode, they mention the movie "The Fly" starring Jeff Goldblum, suggesting it is in the late 80's. But otherwise all the tech they have seems more in line with 60's-70's, with one big exception. Harvey was shown to have a smartphone in a later episode. Now why did they include that, and no other examples of modern tech? No one else has smartphones, there's no computers shown anywhere, and the time clock at the mine was one of those old punch clock machines. All the cars look like they're from the 1960s. Even the school library was using an old card filing system. No computers. I almost wonder if it was a mistake when they showed the smartphone. Why show that and no other piece of modern 2000's technology?

I watched this second part of the season and I wondered the same thing. The kids were dancing to 80's music and I couldn't figure it out. Until then I thought the show was taking place in our current time period. But now that you mention it, I haven't seen them use a computer/laptop. Hmmm...no idea when it takes place.

I also watched part two this weekend. And I guess it is supposed to be set in the 21st century. Theo mentioned the 2005 movie "The Descent" while in the mines with Harvey and Roz, looking for the Gates to Hell, and Aunt Hilda mentioned a cell phone in an episode as well. But I just don't understand how there is no abundant modern tech in Greendale. No computers or laptops, Harvey is the only one shown to have a cell/smartphone, etc. It seems weird. Maybe they can address it in a later episode. We will see.

Packs of gum are ten cents, apparently

Yeah, I know, nothing seems to fit here does it? It is bizarre....why don't they at least try to pin down a time setting for this show?
