that because that's what episode groups are for... The original Japanese airing doesn't have seasons.. but the "american" CR release does for example. (But, the season 1 episodes from 21 up are still blank, data still needs to be moved on the backend)

the API doesn't implement episode groups yet.

However, Plex has not implemented episode groups yet. You'll have to ask them to add support.
