The way these Handmaids are treated is so unbelievable that the premise is hard to accept. Someone please spoil it for me and tell me that Offred has the privilege of stabbing Serena Joy and Aunt Lydia up their ssA with a hot poker stick. It's the only logical way for these 2 to get what's coming to them.
Elisabeth Moss is great in her role. At first she seemed out place in the part, but as the series went on, she owned it. Wonderful performance.

How so? Seems fairly believable to me. It's just set in America instead of Saudi Arabia.

I'm just watching The Magdalene Sisters now and it reminded an awful lot of The Handmaids Tale. The Catholic Church has done a hell of a lot of fûcked up things for thousands of years to women. So yeah it is pretty believable and could happen anywhere anytime.

Yes, it's very disturbing. I just finished episode 3 and I'm hooked. Of course, historically this kind of treatment actually isn't too far fetched; exactly why it's disturbing perhaps. Black slavery, the Middle East etc. Even in China, there are ways around the 2 child policy if you have money. This TV show is essentialy.a cautionary on the elite and it has no problems creating loathesome characters.
I also agree, the lead actress is perfect.

I would recommend that you read the novel.
