Hi, Charlestontracy ... glad you're enjoying the show, it's great, isn't it? I read the years ago and was excited for this miniseries. There was a movie made, probably in the 80's, with Natasha Richardson and Robert Duvall. It was good, though I have to say this one seems better. Probably as a miniseries it's able to go into greater detail.

The macaroon ... not really sure, but my take is that the wives were going on and on about how well behaved Offred was and wouldn't it spoil her appetite, blah blah blah, so Offred just declined because she felt angry and humiliated.

The scrabble game ... again, just my take on it, but it was like reading was forbidden to them so he got a little thrill having her doing something not allowed, a power trip kind of thing. She thought he was going to want sex but he just wanted to play scrabble and watch her read magazines.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the rest of it, and I hear they've announced a second season. Should be interesting.
