I decided to give the first three episodes a try too. It's okay. I read the comics but eventually stopped reading them because of the big revelation that happens that turned me off big time. After that twist it seemed liked they were just swapping out characters every few issues and I lost total interest.

A part of me is really hoping they don't do the same twist for the show, but it looks like they very clearly are, except on top of it there isn't nearly as much fun and snark as you pointed out. But if they change the twist or simply don't do it at all I might stick with the show.

Episode 4, still no one has Runaway (I don't think they will till the last episode of the series at this rate), but they did name drop the title. I'm starting to get more into it as they're now starting to find their abilities (and we get a taste of the Time Travel aspects to come with the girl mysteriously disappearing). The show diverges a lot from the pace of the comics, however it's getting weird enough to be interesting so I'm very curious where they are going with all this, and now hoping for a great payoff.

Episode 5, still no one has Runaway, but the group is now coalescing as a team, and getting to know more about their parents as well as each other's abilities. Good stuff overall (though their first fight could have been staged a little better), and some intriguing moments.

Episode 6, still no one has Runaway. Also, it was a strange filler episode in which the plot is only moved ahead in an odd screw up by one of the kids, it was weird in that they've been more careful about what they do and say until now. Fun cameo from Stan Lee. Stupid attempt to explain the Staff of One as tech (which makes no sense considering magic is already established in the MCU and Tina Minoru has appeared in Doctor Strange along with the staff as a master of the Hong Kong Sanctum). This is probably the weakest episode of the bunch so far.

Episode 7, more filler. By the amount that nothing really happens in the 6th and 7th episode, much of this could have been shortened and combined to one episode. Maybe they're saving up for an exciting finally, or they're just stretching the storyline to fill up their 10 episode quota. I really like the show, but it seems to be stomping on the breaks after the 5th episode, which at that point that the show appeared to be revving up.

Episode 8, got a lot more of Old Lace which was fun. Episode now stepping on the gas after the stoplight wait of the last 2 episodes. I lived in L.A. for a month (actually Burbank but I've been everywhere in L.A. during it and other times I've visisted), and I swear watching Runaways is like cruising through Hollywood Boulevard. Interesting things to see here and there at traffic stops, but you can't wait to get to the 101 onramp.

Episode 9 finally stepped up and episode 10 should be pretty good as well. Hopefully they'll run away before their parents have a chance to convince them to stay.

My main problem with Episode 9, is that should have been Episode 8 so they would have time to have twists and turns in the final battle. It just showed me that episodes 6 and 7 should have been more tighter and merged as one episode. Don't get me wrong, I like Runaways but the show has the habit of prolonging scenes and adding unnecessary subplots that just bogs it down (in pretty much all the episodes). It made the call to action in Episode 9 seem rushed in comparison the rest of the episodes. I still rate this show higher than Iron Fist, but wow this show seems longer than some of the 13 episode Netflix runs.

There's way too much filler, which doesn't make sense for a show with such a short season.

Episode 9 was great. This is the first time I was pissed that Runaways wasn't on Netflix instead so I can watch the next episode right away.

I didn't read the comics, but before I started watching the show I assumed it was called runaways because the main kids run away from their parents. But having watched the first 9 episodes it seems like it's called runaways for the 15 kids that their parents killed that no one cared about because they were runaways.

Also, Molly ran away.
