I started watching the new season and Gennaro is still strutting about being a big gangster and making deals with Lady Annalise - then - oops - things sort of go south for him pretty quickly. I don't understand how he could engender so much fear and respect from people when it appears that his power base consists of himself and two beer swilling ragamuffins. Somebody please explain !!

Do you remember in a very early episode when Don Pietro sent Gennaro off to South America to basically learn the trade and man up ? Well, he's the one with the solid South American connection used for bringing the drugs in. His power comes from his dads history as a complete scum bag (like father like son) and him being able to deliver the goods.
