Discuss 12 Monkeys

This show has had more twists and turns, surprises and head scratching moments than most I have seen. SPOILERS ahead in case you didn't watch the three episodes last night.

So now we learn that Katarina's daughter is James Cole's mother in a "grandfather paradox"; she was born after he was, but went back in time and hooked up with his father. One of those things. I wonder if Katarina already knew, and if so, how long she has known. I don't think she knew when she first met James Cole and began sending him back in time to try to stop the outbreak.

What do you guys think about the tease they keep giving us regarding the red forest? When the tall man, "Pallid Man", spoke to Cassie about being able to be with all those you've lost in the red forest, she flashed back to someone else telling her the same thing. The look on Cassie's face at that moment indicated that for a moment she was perhaps questioning whether the red forest scenario was such a bad thing. The red forest is space without time, similar in that respect to most concepts of heaven, or spiritual life after physical death. But the red forest can't be all that good. 'The Witness' is such an evil, bitter, awful person that you have to believe that the red forest is an awful place, more like hell than heaven. I don't think Cassie will fall for it.

I have no idea how they will wrap up the series. I imagine we will see a few more paradoxes like Cole being Hannah's son. Will they defeat the evil witness? Will they stop the plague? Will Cole somehow meet Cassie in a timeline with no outbreak? Will there be some spark or vague feeling of kismet or deja vu or something? Will they retain any memories of their lives in the other timelines?

I thought this had been canceled last season already.

Yeah I was surprised to see it too. I guess someone prevailed upon the network to put together a short final season to try to tie things together. I am glad they did.

Last season it was announced that it was renewed for a 4th and final season- all while airing all of season 3 in one weekend ( instead of it's usual weekly schedule) plus all of season 3 was on On Demand all at once - both of these occurring did make it seem like they were getting rid of it.

When they went to 1491 to use the weapon against the witness I started getting a bit fed up with it. They knew the witness was after them, but they were moving SO damned slowly. Could they have walked any slower? Finally Jennifer Goins got fed up and said "ring the bell" and ran up and put the monkey head together and started the machine. Then James started walking in slow motion toward the steps. And that's when the witness army attacked.

So I was glad they finally killed the witness and saved time. It was nice to see Deacon back from earlier in time in the finale, helping save the day. And good to see Ramsey back as well. I wondered if they would work out a way to get James and Cassie together in the end, and they did. Nice happy ending

Firstly, thanks SyFy for allowing these people to finish this amazing story. I wish more networks respected their audience enough to allow writers and showrunners to finish what they started. Even a two episode finale or TV movie is enough to make a suitable ending to a franchise that viewers have spent so much time in. Kudos SyFy. But... (Spoiler below) I was disappointed with the happy ending. I think they nailed it up to Cassie saying 'See you soon' to the sun... roll credits. That was an ending. The last 5 minutes was unnecessary in my opinion. Sure it's nice to see them find each other again but what did they say a hundred times during the show?... "The mission comes first".

The Cassie Cole relationship was a major element in the plot throughout the show. I felt sure that somehow they would wind up hooking up at the end and felt they were setting it up to happen that way. The 'relationship' crowd would have been unhappy had they not addressed it at the end.

Also it served to take our minds off of unresolved and unanswered questions. What was the whole Katarina's daughter is James Cole's mother paradox about? Why did they throw that thing in there? I guess they never had time to develop that since the show had to end when it did.
Those type paradoxes are interesting when they take the time to develop them and throw in various twists, but this seemed to be an orphaned idea. They never really work of course because there is no way to resolve the issue; it's a paradox.
In order for those things to work in the plot they need to be connected to a string of other story arcs and introduced in the midst of plenty of other stuff going on so the viewer is too distracted and confused to reject the idea.

But all in all I thought it was a good ending episode. Even though "time thought James Cole deserved a break" or however it was that fruit loops girl put it. That was a bit of a cheat. lol
