Yeah, its such a good show. One that the entire family can truly enjoy.

Watched this avidly in the 1970s and still enjoying the reruns on True Movies. It never seems to date.

I binged watched this on Amazon in 2019. It still holds up. The lessons it teaches and feels it gives you are timeless. This show, perhaps more than any other, will teach you all you need to know about love, loyalty, respect, honor, and the ethics of good honest work.

The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie should be required in classrooms to be watched and discussed by children age 10-16.

BTW, if you have never seen it, The Waltons were pretty much based on a movie called Spencer's Mountain with Henry Fonda and Maureen O'Hara. James MacArthur (Danno on Hawaii Five-O) played Clayboy (instead of Johnboy). More accurately both were based on a novel written by Earl Hamner Jr.

I loved 'The Waltons'! I wanted a family like theirs, except for Johnboy, Grandma, & Erin.

I also wanted that house. I used to say that if I ever bought a house (never wanted to), it would be like the Waltons house (has to have all the rest, the barn, mill, etc.) or a Victorian.

I regularly watched this back in the day, but haven't caught any reruns since then. Good show!

Speaking of good.....

"Good night, Johnboy." "Good night, Mary Ellen." (etc., etc.)

Both The Waltons and Little House on Prairie entire series are on Amazon Prime

Reruns have started today on MeTV (at noon pacific time). I was watching the first episode today & was struck by one scene. It shows John-Boy (holding a large ax) coming upon Holly's mother & leading her through the woods to the Walton's house. If that particular scene were in any show/movie from the last 20 years (or so), it would have turned out completely different!

I've not watched any episodes of this series in decades, but have noticed that, besides it now airing on MeTV, also it's currently airing (in Season 3) on INSP channel.

brat, you're probably correct, that in 2020 (Happy New Year, everyone!), in a similar dramatic set-up, something other than "family-friendly" would likely be what happens next in that episode!

But mainly, who would go into the woods with a guy they didn't know & who was carrying an ax?

Never heard of the INSP channel until today, had to google it. Not my kind of channel, too preachy.

Just another day on Walton Mountain I guess. Maybe he was going to throw the axe off the Tallahatchie bridge

I've never watched anything on INSP (The Inspiration Network), but it always appears listed on my Comcast channel listings. As far as I can tell, that channel (during evening hours at least) normally broadcasts solely old western movies (some well-known ones, actually, for example starring James Stewart or John Wayne) and classic western t.v. series. (I'm guessing that probably part of daytime hours are devoted to religious programming.)

The actress that played Mary Ellen, has a YouTube series where she speaks about behind the scenes stuff. It is interesting. Since he is of British descent, the actor who played Jason, voiced Christopher Robin in a few classic cartoons.

I am sure it is enjoyed by the current generation. Shows like this are evergreen.

I doubt it was because he was born in the UK. His family moved to the states when he was a toddler.
