Takeda (Kinya Kitaoji) was diagnosed with cancer and was told he had only three months to live. Ten years ago, he lost his wife, Naomi (Sanae Tsuchida), to the same disease. Juri Ueno) has disappeared. Takeda tries to commit suicide when he receives a phone call from the Shiga Prefectural Police. Sawako's skeletal corpse is said to have been discovered. Female detective Murai (Yasuko Tomita) sets out to investigate a case whose statute of limitations is about to expire. At a lake, the two find a picture left behind by Sawako.

When you look at the picture you found in the lake, something blue is drawn that is not in the actual scenery. Takeda (Kinya Kitaoji) and Murai (Yasuko Tomita) investigate the visitors to the museum that Sawako (Juri Ueno) has visited, and find a photo of a blue car. Behind Sawako walking towards the car, next to her is a man with a back view. After re-examining Sawako's diary, he learns of the existence of Sato (Yuma Kusakawa), the man who was driving the blue foreign car at the time. When the two find the car in the picture at a junkyard, a message from Sawako is in the trunk of the car...

Unable to arrest Nakamura (Tetsuya Bessho) due to the statute of limitations, Takeda (Kinya Kitaoji), exhausted physically and mentally, returns home with the support of Murai (Yasuko Tomita). There they find a picture postcard. It was posted by the murdered Sawako (Juri Ueno), and was postmarked five days after Sawako was thought to have been murdered. It was a trick that Nakamura did to delay the discovery of the incident, but the two of them boarded Nakamura's apartment again with a strategy to take advantage of it.
