Discuss 3 Body Problem

There were too many red flags for me on this show. First, I tried to read the books, but I abandoned the first one quite soon after I started. I didn't like the style of the writing, it was too boring for me, and I didn't like where this is going. For such epic concept, the scientific approach is too superficial and uneducated. I much prefer Western sci-fi writers like Ian Banks or Vernor Vinge (R.I.P). Even light pop writing of Martha Wells is much more entertaining.

Then I saw that people that will adapt the book to a TV show are the same pair of dumb and dumber that completely botched Game of Thrones and turned it from a memorable TV series to a sh!t show that most of the fans would very much prefer to forget it even existed. So I was getting to it with low expectation, the best way to watch such product.

And I was somewhat entertained and intrigued in the first couple of episodes, the mystery was built quite nicely and the production was very good as well. Despite some cringe over moronic depiction of scientific concepts and terminology (particle accelerator and neutrino detector in the same facility? B!tch, please), it was light, fast and thrilling entertainment. But then mid-season everything just crashed down spectacularly. Suddenly the show was just boring sit-downs, personal drama and long and tedious conversations about feelings and sentimental melodrama during which I first rolled my eyes, then checked my phone and eventually just fast forwarded these scenes, which were plenty. Maybe they had to complete the season on specific moment and had very little to fill up the episodes, but the result is just disappointing.

Before the show aired, I was seeing some articles of how Netflix is taking a chance on the show with too many high concepts of physics and philosophy, and maybe it will be too difficult for an average viewer to understand it. Well, there is nothing much difficult or complex to understand here, it's mostly a low grade superficial sci-fi mumbo-jumbo, not very plausible or realistic. I mean, why would highly advanced alien civilization wait for a message from some planet to decide to leave their own planet and come to conquer the Earth as result? The idea that such advanced alien civilization, that controls quantum entanglement same way humans turn on/off a light switch in a room, will not be able to find a better planet for themselves long time ago, is absolutely ridiculous. And how do they even know that Earth will be a suitable environment for them? Alien invasions cannot happen over stupid reasons. And that's not the only scientific cringe that appears in the show, although the destruction of the ship with nano technology looked very cool.

Visually the show is done very good, it's alright for a mindless binge. Just, does it have to be so boring?

Agree with all of it. The story seemed fragmented and way too many plot holes. Need not to mention some of the characters were irritating because of their hyper emotional and cringeworthy behavior. Only 4-5 college grad clowns were trying to protect the earth (and the entire world was sleeping) made me really annoyed. What was the purpose of the game by the way?

I still can't get past episode 1 and the notion that all these physicists would just commit suicide because they discovered something that unravels the laws of physics. It's ludicrous and the God of the gaps bit is insulting. Maybe I'm just too woke for this nonsense but what's said in the OP doesn't help either. This show sounds like a pile of !@#$. I'll try again some other time, like when I'm half-asleep.

And yes, I also tried watching episode 1 of the original.

3 HOURS LATER: Okay, okay, I finished watching episode 1 of the original and... what the !@#$ is this garbage and how is it so highly rated?
