Discuss Gladiator

  1. Gladiator - one of my top 10 all time films
  2. Cinderella Man - You don't have to love boxing to love this movie
  3. 310 to Yuma - one of the better remakes
  4. LA Confidential - a large ensemble cast, but he stands out
  5. The Insider - really shows his versatility from tough guy to whistle blower
  6. A Beautiful Mind - probably higher on others list
  7. The Nice Guys - tough guy and funny
  8. Robin Hood- some won't like this version, I did
  9. State of Play- very underrated movie
  10. The Water Diviner - got trashed by critics, I loved it

Disclaimer- I have not seen popular movies of his like American Gangster, Les Miserables, Noah, Fathers and Daughters, A Good Year, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, or any of his early movies prior to The Quick and the Dead (1995). Maybe some of you can tell me which of these to see and which to avoid.

Others I Have Seen

  1. - The Quick and the Dead - A guilty pleasure, Hackman great as bad guy, and who doesn't like Sharon Stone in chaps
  2. - Mystery Alaska - like Cinderella Man, you don't have to like hockey to like this movie, but it helps
  3. - Proof of Life - might have made my top 10, but casting of Meg Ryan was all wrong IMO
  4. - Body of Lies- good movie, but really DiCaprio's movie
  5. - The Next Three Days - good movie as well, might have been my #11, a stronger female lead would have helped, but Elizabeth Banks is always fun to gawk at.

My son told me to watch Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. It is his 2nd favorite next to Gladiator...anyone else recommend this?

You've got to see American Gangster, he was excellent in it.

I agree. It is a good film, and it has an all star cast.

I agree that Gladiator without a doubt is his no. 1 movie but LA Confidential should be no.2, IMO; not only because he's great in it but also because it's a fantastic film.

You're right aboyt State of Play, it is an underrated film of his, but I do think Broken City is too, was surprised how good it was.

LA Confidential would be my second favorite movie as well, but I had it a little lower because of the all-star cast, but IMO Crowe did stand out in the crowd.

I just looked up Broken City and I usually bypass movies that are rated under 7 (it's a 6.2) unless it is recommended by someone I know. But it has an interesting cast. I will check it out. Thanks.
