Ok, so I know this was a fantasy (the silly fourteen year old fantasy imaginings in primary colours made that obvious!!) but one does expect a little measure of plausibility in the real time scenario. I wondered how a middle aged not very fit looking man could dig a hole approximately 10x10x10 feet in the middle of a very flat very open cornfield behind a school without being noticed. (We saw a girl crossing that field and the victim did also so presumably people did use it as a shortcut of some kind) I suppose he spread the resultant earth over the cornfield, but new earth on top of weathered earth that was full of detritus would stand out like a sore thumb. Also he had to shore it up, and that would have entailed a lot of wood being transported to the hole and a lot of banging to put it in place. Then there was all the toys and candles he filled it with - for one victim? And when the horrible hat was discovered in the cornfield and there was "a lot of blood" how did that happen because the bloody episode of the crime took place in his bathroom. And who were all the girls in fantasy land - his victims or just victims in general. The ending was too silly for words - I would not visit an establishment with a parking area that overlooked a cliff with no warning signs and no fencing of any kind. It was a fantasy all right - and not a very good one.

I agree with you. I was actually on Mr. Harvey's side mostly. I didn't agree with the murder aspect but on all other points, I thought Mr. Harvey was more likable than Susie Salmon. I hate girls who are so boy crazy. Plus, people talk about Mr. Harvey being "creepy" because he was attracted to younger females as an older man. But then they don't have a problem with Susie hooking up with a 20-something exchange student. Why? Because of his accent? Because she was in the body of another girl when they had sex? So hypocritical.

I started this same discussion on IMDb when they still had boards. It's ludicrous of course, but shows how dumb people are.

Oh yeah. I posted stuff on there about this movie as well. So crazy. People broke off into two camps: Team Harvey Vs. Team Salmon.

People just seem to watch and not question anything - I think they are just too lazy to even think for themselves any more. They are the same with life in general - just follow along like sheep with whatever politicians tell them. No wonder the world is in such a mess.

Agree 100% Strange B. Most have been programmed to hate. They don't even stop to think, "Why is Susie Salmon being so rude to her neighbor?" They just think the 1970s are the same as today: Every man must be a monster.

Filmmakers would call it "suspension of disbelief" which they generally rely upon in different degrees. We're watching a movie, so we have to allow for some things that aren't believable. A small percentage of people will find the idea believable that a single man can surreptitiously remove 37 cubic yards of soil from the middle of a corn field, and then move it back. There's a reason people who prefer books tend to avoid movies.

Agreed. Mr. Harvey is great but not that great.
