Discuss Dune: Part Two

I am calling you out, bratface, in the friendliest way possible! :)

Do you remember when, last October (2021), I wrote, in response to a reply you made to someone else, that October 2023 (original release date for Dune: Part Two, now moved back just a bit) was really not that far away, and soon the release would just be a year away?

I wrote that because, back then, you said something to the effect that you were "older than dirt" and might not make it to view the second part.

Well, I am here now, telling you the release is now only a year away-- not so long to wait!

So hold on, bratface, we all need to hear your views on this film. I am holding you to it! You better not leave this blue marble before then, or else I will be extremely upset! :)

[Random thoughts: I see you are still helping people with informative links to questions they have, I still say the Landsraad of the TMDB needs to install you as a Moderator; and, I really hope it's true what the page for this movie says: Christopher Walken will play the Emperor Shaddam IV! Walken is one of my favorite male actors; I would love to see him in the role!)

Thanks for thinking of me North. But a year is still a long time to wait. As for Walken playing Shaddam, it will be interesting, I just hope Walken doesn't ham it up too much.

This reminds me to mention House of the Dragon. I was going to wait until the season was over & subscribe to HBO for one month & binge BUT, from what I have read season 2 will not air for almost 2 years. Not sure why they have to wait that long. GOT averaged about 9-10 months between seasons.

I hate when showrunners/creators/directors drag everything out. MacFarlane did that with The Orville, it was over 3 years between season 2 & season 3. Even rewatching the last few episodes of 2 didn't really help with season 3, and his overuse of grandiose music was really annoying.

I agree with you on House of the Dragon. I haven't actually seen any of it, but have been following the plot summaries after each episode (somewhat) and asking people about it at work who do watch it (I have seen all of Game of Thrones). And yes, I heard about that long delay.

I think that was one major reason why Season 8 of GoT was so brief and also so ill-received; made closer to Season 7, I think the desire of the showrunners to go on to other projects wouldn't have had time to fester and they could've given folks a more fleshed-out season.

Also, long gaps between seasons undermines one of my primary rules for making a good TV show:

A well-written, purposeful TV series can really only happen-- with rare exceptions --if it is designed from the get-go with a beginning, a middle, and an end, and, to keep things consistent with both the writing and the actors who play the parts, it should necessarily be of a limited run-- say, three to six seasons with a series total of not more than 50 - 100 episodes (and 100 is really pushing it). This rule applies to both comedies and dramas. This is why I prefer the limited scope of British TV programs and American cable programs compared to American broadcast network TV programs, the latter of which seemingly never end, leading to ridiculous plot twists and the actors involved eventually dropping out, or even dying in real life, making it difficult to maintain consistency.

Long gaps between seasons of a show-- even if the show itself has a small number of seasons --subverts that rule and often damages the show.

And yes, I see what you mean about Christopher Walken-- he has sort of become a parody of himself. He could say something meant to be serious and yet one often finds oneself laughing at the delivery; something that might work in his favor with Shaddam IV, however, is that-- if Villeneuve stays true to the books --Shaddam doesn't appear very often. And really, a little unintentional comedy in a story that is almost entirely without humor might be a good thing.

Hang in there, bratface, and I look forward to your review when this film finally does come out!
