Discuss The Wizard of Oz

The look of this magical movie is truly beautiful and remarkable, and shows a lot of imagination and creativity. Back during the era when this came out audiences must have been utterly dazzled, as even today, in our modern "seen it all" times, it continues to look amazing. From the sets, to the costumes, to the cinematography, to the special effects, it has it all. Layer onto that the wonderful and charming (albeit somewhat scary to kids) story, delightful characters, and excellent memorable performances, and it truly "has it all".

This is one of those rare old movies that literally pretty much everyone, of any age, has seen (even if they refuse to watch anything else old), which makes this a great ambassador for the Classic Films era.

Agreed. And also, the shifts from and back to the muted color scheme you see at the film's start are so appropriate to the story. As you alluded to in your post, the film is truly technically groundbreaking.
