I just rewatched this for myself the other day. I haven't seen it in so, so long! Such a fun movie! For favorite character, I have to go with the Tin Man. I was obsessed with all things Wizard of Oz way back when, and particularly loved the Tin Man. Then I would also say the Scarecrow, as his hilarious and off-the-wall performance contributed a lot to the film. I didn't remember at all how good he was in this. So glad I gave the film another viewing!
The flying monkeys really scared me during childhood.
Heck, they still scare me. As does the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the witch-turned-dragon in Sleeping Beauty. The best villains never leave your mind.
But I actually started to add my pick for favorite. It's a tough choice. Who doesn't fall in love with the Cowardly Lion when he's wringing his tail in terror and repeating "I do believe in spooks", and then summons his courage to march in behind the witch's guards in disguise.
And the Tin Man, so sweet and gentle.
But I guess I have to go with the scarecrow. When Dorothy says "I think I'll miss you most of all." the tears simply CASCADE down my cheeks, and have for nigh on 60 years.

Toto of course. Without Toto Dorthy wouldn't get to Oz, the Wizard wouldn't be revealed, and Dorthy wouldn't get saved from the witch. Toto rules!

No love for 'The Flying Monkeys'? Poor misunderstood creatures.

Did the same to my sister, I think that was one of the reasons I liked them. But I was fearless as a child.
