Forget about Oscars, and likely better to just check your brain at the door. If it's worth seeing at all, it'll be for sheer visual spectacle on a big screen.
Yeah, I'll likely buy a ticket.

More importantly, does Statham take off his shirt? 😉

The first Meg was the first film I found worthy of paying extra for the 4DX screening experience.
Like you say, leave your brain at home. Not required.

I think I've seen Meg and, for the life of me, hardly remember it at all — I guess I checked my brain at the door of that one, too :-)

It is being dragged horribly in most reviews. It originally had a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes but has climbed to 18%.

Yikes, those reviews are swinging an axe directly at several of the expectations I had about this movie.
Perhaps better to wait for its CinemaScore to tell us whether it hits or misses the mark before I spend money on a ticket.

I wasn't planning on seeing it (haven't seen the first one either) & haven't read any of the reviews but it was all over one section of my news feed (about how bad it was).

If you're interested in a movie, always check it out yourself. No critic is 100% independent and objective. Audience score is also not independent and objective, and even more unreliable as the majority cannot be verified and can easily be manipulated by humans and bots, who/that might not have even seen the movie.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes give "Oppenheimer (2023)" and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One (2023)" a score of almost 100% at the prescreening and opening weekend, and called them masterpieces. It has now dropped to 95% and 96% respectively. These scores are higher than that of "Barbie (2023)".
Critics will call any movie that they give very high scores a masterpiece, while the audience will use phrases like 'the best ever' or 'the worst ever'.
It is difficult to be objective about a movie - perhaps a future conscious AI will be - as an essential goal of a movie is to elicit human emotions. If you agree or disagree with a critic score it is subjective. Not everyone will like or dislike the same movie.
If you agree with the critics score on Rotten Tomatoes for "Oppenheimer (2023)" and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One (2023)" and disagree with that for "Barbie (2023)", what does that mean?
The critics are wrong about "Barbie (2023)", so they are wrong about "Meg 2: The Trench (2023)"?
They are correct about "Oppenheimer (2023)" and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, Part One (2023)", but they are wrong about "Meg 2: The Trench (2023)"?
Critics are correct or wrong then, depending on the personal preference of the individual.
If you are not the target audience - this term can have a broad definition - then - even if it has a 100% all audience score - you might be annoyed and disappointed if/when you see the movie.
The best thing to do is make your own decision. Reviews and scores can sometimes be helpful, but also cause confusion when they do not sync with your own preference. The genre you have always liked - your personal preference - would be the first choice. Other genres are optional or better to be avoided, if you know that it might upset you.
Sidenote:
I have not mentioned another reason - that is also important - you might like or dislike a movie: the director and actor(s) who are involved in the project. That, of course, is also subjective.

CinemaScore B-
Not horrible. If it's still in theatres in a couple of weeks, I might spend money on tickets.
As for this weekend, I've got tickets to see Barbie.

I thought you said you would wait until it came to a streaming channel? Or was that someone else? My 'old lady brain' sometimes forgets things. 👵🏽

I've been vacillating - it is, by nature, a big screen kind of movie...
but then, the early critical reviews were scaring me away...
but then, the CinemaScore came in and wasn't horrible. What to do, what to do...
Awwww! No worries, kiddo :-)

The audience expected to see Statham vs Meg, but it's more than that and less than that. I missed his love interest from the first movie.
.
Well, you'll have the chance to see the only and last movie produced by humans in different shades of pink, practical sets and little CGI, with a lot of Barbies in fashionable clothes, all on a big screen. Those who have had Barbies and the playsets will really be excited seeing and loving all this. Others will get bored and try to make sense of the story line, seeking its true meaning. Whatever, enjoy the night out, alone, with your partner or friends, and a large bucket of popcorn.

The Oscars may not define its worth, but I'm excited for the stunning visual experience on the big screen. Count me in for a ticket!

Statham movies are always good. The Meg was so much fun. I'm waiting until streaming however.
