Yes, you are correct. And if you are using the French version you see the French translation. However, if this "original language" principle were to be carried out for all cast/crew we would only see the Cyrillic, Chinese, Thai (etc) version of a name while browsing/editing a movie no matter what language we were using and that's not optimal, neither from a user nor moderation perspective.

I think the solution suggested above by Travis is a good one. That would ensure that there is an original name and also that users of various translation would get the regular, more commonly used version of the name.
