Discuss Uncut Gems

He knocked it out of the park with his performance on this one. Perfectly cast and a great performance. Had it on my Netflix queue for months and went into it blind (no trailers), but glad I did. That ending is gonna haunt me a little.

Not sure if Sandler can land more serious roles after this whole covid thing...he's worse then EVER lately in his "relegated to Netflix" comedies.

Haven't seen this one yet, but I really respected what Sandler did in Reign Over Me, with Don Cheadle and Jada Pinkett Smith. At the time he did it, I only knew him for his comedies, but he pounded the dramatic role into the fucking floor.

My overall stance towards Sandler is slightly more charitable than yours, Jorg(at one time, dude did put out a few movies that were f-cking hilarious, even if only in the most puerile fashion imaginable. Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Mr. Deeds), nonetheless I agree regarding Uncut Gems. This was hands down the best film of the year. As strong as AS's performance was(and it's his best to date), the majority of the credit here goes to director Benny Safdie, the incredible supporting cast, and cinematographer Darius Kholhadiagigjii

I WILL agree, that Sandler's earlier comedies were hilarious...Billy Madison up to maybe Little Nicky...after that his comedy schtick relied on talking down to people and poking fun at physical abnormalities and the like (VERY evident in movies like Grown Ups...he's the least funny of that cast in that movie)...he came off like a BULLY and he's not all that! It was very evident at the box office people were tired of him cause it was flop after flop leading up to his Netflix contract (my lone personal exception being Pixels, I LOVED Pixels...but NOT because of him, because I love old 80s arcade games).

And I agree on your other point...the Safdie's did a great job with the flow of the story...I was always locked in..interested where it was going next! I was rooting, but also wanted to kick his character in the nuts for doing such stupid things! lol
